Caleb Campbell heads into his fourth race weekend of the 2025 Formula Regional Americas Championship as the series visits New Jersey Motorsports Park for the New Jersey Lottery SpeedTour, running July 31 to August 3 in Millville, NJ. Fresh off his first win of the season at Road America, the Canadian driver is eager to carry that momentum into the second half of the championship.
Q: How would you sum up your season so far?
Caleb:
It’s been good overall. Road America is definitely my favorite race so far — that’s where I got my first win this season and where I’ve had the most luck. It was just a really solid weekend.
Q: What’s been the biggest challenge this year?
Caleb:
Probably the small mistakes that add up. You fix one thing, but then something out of your control can take you out of the race. That’s been tough, but there’s still lots of time left, so I’m just staying focused on what’s ahead.
Q: Do you feel any pressure in the championship standings?
Caleb:
Not really. I’m not far off in points, and with four rounds left — including this one — there’s plenty of time to catch up. I’m just putting my head down and working hard each weekend.
Q: Which race are you most looking forward to later in the season?
Caleb:
Definitely the Canadian race. I’m super excited for that one, It’ll be my first time bringing the car to race in Canada, and that alone makes it really meaningful, I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, and to finally compete on Canadian soil with friends and family there to watch in person, it’s going to be an unforgettable experience.
Q: This will be your first time racing at New Jersey Motorsports Park. How have you been preparing?
Caleb:
I’ve been putting in a lot of laps on the simulator. The first sector feels similar to Road America with fast, high-speed corners, while the last sector is more technical with long sweeping turns. We’ll have to balance the setup for both sections, but I’m excited to get out there.
Q: What stands out about the track layout?
Caleb:
There are 12 corners here. The first part is fast, but the last part is slow and technical, so finding a setup that works for both is key.
Q: Weather could play a role with thunderstorms in the forecast. How do you feel about racing in the rain?
Caleb:
I actually like racing in the rain. My first national win in karting came in the rain, so I’m confident if the weather changes. We’ll make adjustments to the car and be ready for whatever comes.
Q: You won the “Perfectly Timed Move of the Race” award last round. Can you talk about that moment?
Caleb:
Yeah, that was a really fun battle. I made a pass in the same spot someone had gotten me earlier in the race, and it stuck. It was a clean move and felt really good — definitely one of the highlights of the weekend.
Q: What’s your goal for this weekend?
Caleb:
The goal is always to win, but I also want to learn as much as I can and carry that forward into the next races. Every weekend is a chance to get better.
Q: Any message for Kids Help Phone, who’ve been supporting you this season?
Caleb:
Just a big thank you. Their support means a lot, and I’m proud to represent them on my car.
Away from the track, Campbell reflected on his journey in motorsport, sharing how he first got into racing, the heroes who inspired him, and the support system that keeps him grounded during a busy season.
Q: What sparked your passion for racing?
Caleb:
I started karting when I was young. I tried hockey and soccer, but nothing clicked the way karting did. Once I got in a go-kart for the first time, I was hooked.
Q: When did you know you wanted to do this professionally?
Caleb:
Probably when I raced in the U.S. for the first time. It was so much bigger than what I’d seen in Canada, and I realized there was a clear path to move up into formula cars. That’s when I knew I wanted to make it my career.
Q: Who were your racing heroes growing up?
Caleb:
Jacques Villeneuve for sure, since he’s Canadian. Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher are legends I look up to as well. And Daniel Ricciardo — I met him at the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix, and he was super nice, took time to talk and even brought me into his garage. That stuck with me.
